Here at McClean & Co we are lucky to work with up and coming professional golfer Laura Hoskin. Laura was ranked one of the top junior golfers in New Zealand before she headed off to play and study in the USA in Oregon and at the University of Mississippi. Laura finished ninth at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, and she qualified for the 2013 USGA Junior Girls Championship by placing second at the San Diego Junior Masters.

COVID put the brakes on a move to China to play and now Laura is fully focused on returning to the States in August to attend the LPGA Qualifying School in Palm Springs. In the meantime, Laura has been training and playing, based in her home town of Queenstown.

We have worked closely with Laura for the last two years as she has focused on her game. Laura works closely with Lindsay and the team here and she says they have helped her to think about her game as a business. “When I started out I didn’t know too much about how to manage my business. Lindsay has guided me along the way. He taught me to think like a business owner.”

We have worked with Laura, schooling her up on Xero and financial management. She says, “I manage Xero and I have control of the finances; Lindsay and the McClean & Co crew help me manage this and they step in if I need any help. I meet with them three times a year to go through reports and spend time planning and talking through my finances. They have made it simple to understand and easy for me to pick up the basics and manage myself.”

We enjoy watching Laura play, and we follow her tournaments and career closely. It has been a pleasure to watch her development as a player and a businesswoman. She says, “The best thing about working with McClean & Co is I know they are taking care of my business and I can focus on playing. They take care of the numbers and I focus on golf.”  We wish Laura the best of luck as she heads off to the US next year.
